The Story Behind Precision Health

Functional medicine taught me to look beyond the symptom in front of me. My later training gave me a more precise framework for evaluating injury, neurological function, and recovery.

My Story

Several times in my early life, I watched family members and friends struggle with health problems that no one seemed able to fully explain. Conditions that were dismissed, misunderstood, or never quite diagnosed correctly. Even after years of education and my early years in practice, I didn't yet have the tools to help people whose cases were that complicated.

For some people, the search for a better approach comes from an admirable desire to serve others. For me, it started with frustration. The frustration of watching people I cared about struggle without real answers, and not having a way to help them myself.

About seven or eight years into practice, I discovered functional medicine — not as a service I wanted to build a clinic around, but as a broader clinical lens for understanding why some patients don't recover the way they should. It changed how I evaluated the difficult cases in front of me, and it still informs how I think about recovery today.

Functional medicine taught me to look beyond the symptom in front of me. My later training in Primary Spine Care and mild traumatic brain injury gave me a more precise framework for evaluating injury, neurological function, and recovery. Precision Health brings those perspectives together.

Today, my clinical focus is centered where I can help people most directly: spine and musculoskeletal complaints, concussion and mTBI, migraine and persistent headache, auto accident injuries, early cognitive changes, and complex recovery. Metabolic and lifestyle factors are considered when they materially affect recovery, neurological function, migraine threshold, or cognitive health — not as a blanket approach for every patient.

Two decades, thousands of hours of continued education, and hundreds of complex cases later, I'm still learning, and still working every day to give people the kind of thorough, connected evaluation that was missing for the people I cared about, years ago.

Credentials & Training

I started my career with dual degrees from Palmer College of Chiropractic. As my clinical focus moved toward spine, injury, and brain-based cases, I pursued extensive post-doctoral training in primary spine care and mild traumatic brain injury through the SUNY Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. I'm currently working toward completing full fellowships in both. I also hold certification through the H.M.R.D.O. M.E.R.I.T. program.

Alongside that work, I trained through Functional Medicine University and became a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner (CFMP), and I'm currently working through their advanced curriculum. That training is not the identity of the clinic — it is part of the broader perspective I use to identify the neurological, metabolic, and lifestyle factors that can affect recovery from injury, concussion, migraine, and cognitive change.

Over more than two decades in practice, I've evaluated and treated hundreds of complex cases, and over the past two years, that experience led me to rework my clinical approach into what's now the foundation of Precision Health: the MVP Diagnostic Model for evaluation, and the Control Systems of Healing approach for treatment.

Along the way, I've also written health-focused articles for local publications and one national magazine (it's no longer in print, but I'm sure it had nothing to do with the quality of my writing!).

Why the broader perspective still matters

Pain, concussion symptoms, migraine, and cognitive changes do not always exist in isolation. Sleep, autonomic regulation, metabolic health, physical conditioning, inflammation, and lifestyle can influence how symptoms develop and how well a person recovers. These factors are not the primary focus for every patient, but they may be important when the clinical picture is more complicated.
