How does inflammation affect recovery?
Short answer
Acute inflammation is a normal part of healing. Chronic, unresolved inflammation can slow tissue repair, amplify pain signaling, disrupt sleep, and cloud cognition.
More detail
Inflammation is not inherently bad — the body needs it to heal. Problems arise when the inflammatory response does not resolve on schedule, whether due to ongoing injury, poor sleep, glucose swings, chronic stress, or other systemic factors.
Addressing modifiable contributors — sleep, movement, nutrition, and stress load — is usually the first step. Testing may be considered when persistent inflammatory patterns appear to be limiting recovery.
