Do I need imaging before testing?
Short answer
Usually no. Imaging is ordered when it will change the plan or rule out specific pathology. Most functional testing gives more useful day-to-day information than imaging alone.
More detail
Imaging is important in specific situations — significant trauma, red-flag symptoms, or surgical decisions. For the majority of persistent musculoskeletal, concussion, migraine, or cognitive cases, functional testing and physical evaluation drive the treatment plan.
If you have imaging or reports already, bring them. If you do not, the evaluation will indicate whether imaging is warranted based on your findings.
This information is educational and general in nature. It is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and it does not describe every possible cause of a symptom. Individual evaluation is required to determine what applies to any specific case.
